FIELD HOCKEY RULES
League will run 8 team round robin format. Each team will play every other team once during the first seven (7) weeks. For the final week of play, week 8, all teams will be ranked according to points earned during the first seven (7) weeks, with the final game schedule for each team determined based on this ranking.
Points are accrued as follows:
3 points = win
1 point = tie
0 points = lose or forfeit
Games are two 25 minutes halves with 5 minute half time. If teams are tied at the end of week 7 based on the total points accrued during the league, head to head performance, goals against and finally goals scored will serve as tie-breakers. Any team that has a forfeit will be ranked last in all tie-breakers to determine ranking for Week 8.
There may be ties during the first 7 weeks of play. Week #8 championship game, if tied, will be played 4 v 4 as sudden victory, not exceed 3 minutes – a goalie can be 1 of the 4 players. If still tied we will play sudden victory strokes. Each team will choose 1 stroker. If the game is still tied it will go to a 2 nd stroker, 3 rd stroker, etc….until the tie is broken. The team that strokes second will get a chance to stroke.
Coaches – Teams are allowed 1, no more than 2, representatives to assist in coaching substitutions. All coaches are allowed to stand on the sideline with their team during the game. If a team has no coach – players are responsible to arrange for their own substitutions.
Players: All teams can play 7 players on the field during play. One of those 7 players may be a goalie. If a goal keeper is not provided – cones will be set to determine the score area.
Forfeit rule: All games start promptly on the hour. There will be a 5 minute grace period before forfeit is called. Mouth guards are required. A team needs to start the game with a minimum of 5 players to avoid the forfeit. If a team cannot provide 5 players they may be borrowed, but the game will be determined a forfeit. Teams cannot share rosters. Forfeits will be recorded as a 1 victory loss.
Rules: We will be playing modified high school rules. The only exception on offensive corners the ball must leave the playing circle before being played towards goal. It does not need to be stopped dead.
